The final round of K League 1, the five matches each club plays inside its own half of the split table, began with round 34. Two matches were played on Saturday, October 31, and four on Sunday, November 1. In Final A, Daejeon Hana Citizen drew 0-0 at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Ulsan HD beat Gangwon FC 2-1 at home, and Incheon United won 1-0 at the new champions FC Seoul. In Final B, Gwangju FC drew 1-1 with Gimcheon Sangmu at home, Pohang Steelers drew 1-1 with Jeju SK at home, and FC Anyang beat Bucheon FC 1995 2-1 at home.
Every figure here is as of the November 1 update, 204 of the season's 228 matches. Each club has four matches left, all inside its own group, so the six clubs in Final A still finish first to sixth and the six in Final B seventh to twelfth. Clinch numbers assume the worst case, that every rival takes maximum points from every match it has left, and a rival who can finish exactly level is counted as a threat.
Final A, in order: Seoul 67 points (20 wins, 7 draws, 7 defeats), Ulsan 54, Daejeon 50, Incheon 49, Jeonbuk 49 and Gangwon 48. Incheon went from sixth to fourth with the win in Seoul, and they are above Jeonbuk, also on 49, on goals scored, 44 to 43. Final B: Jeju 47, Anyang 46, Pohang 43, Gimcheon 35, Bucheon 32 and Gwangju 22. Seoul's title was settled in round 33, as our previous piece explained, and the defeat changes nothing about it.
The top three, which this site counts as the continental places, moved toward Ulsan. Ulsan's clinch number fell from 13 to 8. They can reach 62 with 8 more points, and the only clubs who could then be level with or above them are Seoul and Daejeon, whose ceiling is 62, which leaves Ulsan third at worst. Daejeon's number fell from 15 to 12, which still means winning all four. At 62 only Seoul and Ulsan could match them, because Incheon and Jeonbuk can reach 61 at most. Four matches cannot give 11 points, and 10 would leave Daejeon on 60, below that 61. Incheon, Jeonbuk and Gangwon still have no clinch number, because Ulsan and Daejeon can both finish above their ceilings of 61, 61 and 60. Their elimination number is now 4: lose all four and Seoul, Ulsan and Daejeon are certain to stay above them.
Inside Final A, Seoul are fixed in first, and every other club can still finish anywhere from second to sixth. In Final B, Jeju and Anyang can now finish seventh to tenth, so neither can drop to eleventh or twelfth. Pohang and Gimcheon can finish seventh to eleventh, Bucheon ninth to twelfth and Gwangju eleventh or twelfth.
At the bottom, the draw between Gwangju and Gimcheon moved two numbers. Gimcheon are now on 35, and Gwangju's 22 points with four matches left give a ceiling of 34, so Gimcheon can no longer finish last. Their number was 3. Gwangju's relegation elimination number fell from 2 to 1: one more defeat would leave them on 31 at most, below Bucheon's 32. Bucheon lost at Anyang, but their number still fell from 5 to 3, because Gwangju's ceiling dropped from 36 to 34. Three more points take Bucheon to 35, one beyond it. This figure covers the automatic drop for last place only. The club in eleventh plays a promotion and relegation playoff against a K League 2 side, and these numbers say nothing about that.
Round 35 is on November 7 and 8. Gwangju play first, at Jeju on Saturday, November 7, the same day Gimcheon host Anyang. A Gwangju defeat there would settle last place. On Sunday, November 8, Seoul host Ulsan, Daejeon host Incheon, Gangwon host Jeonbuk, and Bucheon host Pohang. A Bucheon win would take them to 35 and make them certain to finish above Gwangju whatever happens at Jeju. Ulsan's 8 and Daejeon's 12 cannot be reached in one round. After that, round 36 is on November 21 and 22.
How to read these numbers. A clinch number is the smallest further return, counted in league points, that guarantees an outcome even if every rival takes maximum points from everything it has left. A tragic number is the count of further defeats after which the outcome becomes impossible even if the club wins everything else. Zero means already settled, and no number at all means arithmetic alone cannot get there. A rival who can finish exactly level counts against a club when we decide a clinch, so our clinch can trail an official announcement by a day. Goal difference, head-to-head records and the other official tiebreakers are not part of this arithmetic.
