MLB Division Series 2026 after Game 2: Rays, White Sox and Brewers one win from the LCS, Dodgers and Braves tied 1-1

All four Division Series are through Game 2. In the American League Game 2s on Tuesday, October 6, Korea time, Tampa Bay beat the Yankees 5-2 and the White Sox won 4-3 at Cleveland, so both lead 2-0. In the National League Milwaukee leads San Diego 2-0, and the Dodgers and Atlanta are level at 1-1. The three clubs on two wins each need one more win from the three games left to reach the League Championship Series, while the Yankees, Cleveland and San Diego have to win all three. Game 3 is on Wednesday, October 7 in the National League and Thursday, October 8 in the American League, Korea time.

Clinch Desk · Tue, Oct 6

The two American League Division Series Game 2s were played on Monday, October 5 (US time), Tuesday, October 6 in Korea, at the higher seeds as in Game 1. Top seed Tampa Bay beat the fourth-seeded Yankees 5-2, and the sixth-seeded White Sox won 4-3 at second seed Cleveland. Neither game went to extra innings. Both winners have now won twice, after Game 1 wins of 1-0 for Tampa Bay and 3-0 for the White Sox. In the National League, which played its Game 2s a day earlier, on Monday, October 5 in Korea, Milwaukee beat San Diego 4-3 to lead 2-0, and Atlanta won 3-2 at the Dodgers to level that series at 1-1. Three of the four series therefore stand at 2-0 and one at 1-1. In a best of five, a club on two wins needs one more, a club on one needs two, and a club on none needs three.

Every result and date here comes from the ESPN postseason data behind this site's postseason page and team pages. The cut-off is Tuesday afternoon, October 6, Korea time. All eight Game 1s and Game 2s are final, and no Game 3 has been played. Dates are Korea dates, with the US date added where it helps. What each club needs and when each series can end were worked out by going through every way the remaining games can fall, game by game. This piece covers results and the arithmetic of the games left only, with no forecasts and no probabilities.

Tampa Bay-Yankees. In this meeting of the top two in the AL East, Tampa Bay won both home games, 1-0 and 5-2, and the Yankees have scored two runs in the series. Games 3 and 4 are in New York on Thursday, October 8 and Friday, October 9 in Korea (October 7 and 8 in the US), and Game 5 is in Tampa Bay on Sunday, October 11 (October 10 in the US); Games 4 and 5 are played only if needed. Tampa Bay needs one win from the three games left and could finish the series as early as Game 3 in New York on October 8. As the higher seed, it can only close the series out in New York in Game 3 or 4, or at home in Game 5 after losing both. The Yankees can only come back by winning Games 3 and 4 at home and Game 5 in Tampa Bay.

Cleveland-White Sox. In this meeting of the top two in the AL Central, the sixth-seeded White Sox won both games at second seed Cleveland, 3-0 and 4-3, and Cleveland has scored three runs in the series. Counting their two Wild Card Series wins at Houston, the White Sox have played all four of their postseason games on the road and won all four. Game 3 is in Chicago on Thursday, October 8 and Game 4, if needed, on Friday, October 9 in Korea (October 7 and 8 in the US), and Game 3 will be the White Sox's first home game of this postseason. Game 5, if needed, is in Cleveland on Sunday, October 11 (October 10 in the US). The White Sox also need one win from three, but as the lower seed, unlike Tampa Bay and Milwaukee, they can finish the series at home, in Game 3 or 4. Cleveland, despite the higher seed, has to win both games in Chicago and then Game 5 at home. This is the only one of the four series led by the lower seed.

Milwaukee-San Diego. Top seed Milwaukee won both home games by a run, 3-2 and 4-3. Game 3 is in San Diego on Wednesday, October 7 in Korea (Tuesday, October 6 in the US), Game 4, if needed, is there on Thursday, October 8 (October 7 in the US), and Game 5, if needed, is in Milwaukee on Saturday, October 10 (October 9 in the US). Milwaukee needs one win from three and could finish the series in Game 3 in San Diego on October 7. It is the only one of the four series that can end that day. San Diego can only come back by winning Games 3 and 4 at home and Game 5 in Milwaukee.

Dodgers-Atlanta. The Dodgers won Game 1 at home 5-3 and Atlanta took Game 2 in Los Angeles 3-2, so the series is level at 1-1 and the first club to win two of the three games left takes it. Games 3 and 4 are in Atlanta on Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8 in Korea (October 6 and 7 in the US), and Game 5, if needed, is in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 10 (October 9 in the US). Neither club can reach three wins in Game 3, so the series cannot end before Game 4 on October 8. Atlanta finishes it at home on October 8 by winning Games 3 and 4. The Dodgers have to win both games in Atlanta, or one of them and Game 5 at home, so either way they need at least one win in Atlanta. If Games 3 and 4 are split, Game 5 in Los Angeles on October 10 decides it.

Across the eight games, the home side has won five and the road side three: the White Sox in Games 1 and 2 and Atlanta in Game 2. Five of the eight were decided by one run, and none went to extra innings. In each league the two Division Series winners meet in the best-of-seven League Championship Series: in the American League the Tampa Bay-Yankees winner against the Cleveland-White Sox winner, in the National League the Milwaukee-San Diego winner against the Dodgers-Atlanta winner. All four pairings are still possible in both leagues, and neither league's pairing can be settled before Thursday, October 8 in Korea. The American League pairing is settled that day only if Tampa Bay and the White Sox both win Game 3. In the National League, even if Milwaukee finishes on October 7, the Dodgers-Atlanta series cannot end before Game 4 on October 8. At the latest, the pairings are settled on Saturday, October 10 in the National League and Sunday, October 11 in the American League. Korea start times for every game are on the schedule page.

Each club's page shows where it stands in the postseason: in the American League Tampa Bay, the Yankees, Cleveland and the White Sox, in the National League Milwaukee, San Diego, the Dodgers and Atlanta. Every series and the bracket are on the postseason page. The Wild Card Series results and how the Division Series matchups were set are in our previous piece, and the seeding and tiebreaker rules are in our explainer. This site's clinch and tragic numbers are a regular-season calculation and stay frozen at the final standings of September 28.
