KBL standings 2026-27 after opening weekend: LG rout champions KCC 103-68, and why 1-0 LG sit above 2-0 Jungkwanjang

As of the end of the opening weekend, October 3 to 5. Changwon LG beat defending champions Busan KCC by 35 points in the season opener, and Anyang Jungkwanjang are the only team to have won both of their games. The four unbeaten teams are separated by overall point difference under the KBL tiebreak rule, and Jungkwanjang and DB, level on that too, by overall points scored. Jungkwanjang at Seoul Samsung on October 9 is already certain to be a meeting of unbeaten teams, and Seoul SK, entered in FIBA Basketball Champions League Asia, do not play their first game until October 18.

The season opened with a rout. In the official opener of the 2026-27 KBL season, at Sajik Gymnasium in Busan on Saturday, October 3, Changwon LG beat Busan KCC 103-68. It was a meeting of last season's regular-season winners, LG at 36-18, and its champions, KCC, who reached the playoffs in sixth place at 28-26 and went on to win the title. The 35-point margin was the widest of the seven games played over the opening weekend, LG were the only team to reach 100 points, and KCC's 68 was the lowest score by any team. LG play all nine of their October games on the road while the scoreboards at their home arena in Changwon are replaced, so the trip began with the weekend's biggest win. Their first home game is on November 1 against Wonju DB.

Every figure here is as of the end of play on Monday, October 5. Seven games were played over three days, 2.6% of a 270-game regular season in which each of the ten teams plays 54. Five teams have played twice, four once, and Seoul SK have not played at all. Results come from the same game data that fills this site's KBL table. Nothing here is a forecast. It is all arithmetic.

Here are the results. On October 3 LG beat KCC 103-68, Goyang Sono beat Daegu KOGAS 82-73 and Anyang Jungkwanjang beat Ulsan Hyundai Mobis 88-85. On October 4 Seoul Samsung won 81-76 at Suwon KT and Wonju DB beat Sono 95-86 at home. On October 5 KCC won 97-87 at Hyundai Mobis and Jungkwanjang won 86-80 at KOGAS. Home teams went 3-4. Five of the seven games were decided by single digits, and the closest was Jungkwanjang's three-point win over Hyundai Mobis.

Jungkwanjang are the only team to have won both of their games, by three points against Hyundai Mobis and by six at KOGAS. LG, DB and Samsung are 1-0, Sono and KCC 1-1, KT 0-1, and Hyundai Mobis and KOGAS 0-2. KCC's two games could hardly have been further apart: a 35-point home defeat and then, two days later, a 10-point win on the road, which leaves them 1-1 with a point difference of minus 25. Sono have scored 168 points and allowed 168 over two games, a difference of exactly zero. Set against last season's table, Samsung, last at 16-38, opened with a road win, while Hyundai Mobis, eighth at 18-36, and KOGAS, ninth at 17-37, are both 0-2.

Yet the team at the top of the table is 1-0 LG, not 2-0 Jungkwanjang. The KBL ranks teams by winning percentage, not by wins, and Jungkwanjang at 2-0 and LG, DB and Samsung at 1-0 all stand at 1.000. Teams level on winning percentage are separated under Article 19 of the KBL regulations by their record against each other, then point difference in those games, then points scored in those games, then overall point difference and finally overall points scored. None of the four has played another yet, so the first three steps separate nothing. Overall point difference lines them up as LG +35, Jungkwanjang +9, DB +9 and Samsung +5, and Jungkwanjang and DB, level on that as well, are split by overall points scored, 174 to 95. Jungkwanjang's 174 came from two games and DB's 95 from one. This site's table applies the rule as written, so it lists LG first, Jungkwanjang second, DB third and Samsung fourth. The same rule puts Sono, with a point difference of zero, above KCC, at minus 25, among the 1-1 teams, who have not met either.

Only one game is scheduled on each of the next two days: LG at KT on Tuesday, October 6, and KOGAS at KCC on Wednesday, October 7. One meeting of unbeaten teams is already certain: Jungkwanjang at Samsung on Friday, October 9. Neither plays before then, so Jungkwanjang arrive at 2-0 and Samsung at 1-0. A day earlier, LG at DB on Thursday, October 8, also becomes a meeting of unbeaten teams if LG win at KT, because DB do not play before then. Either way, once the October 9 game is played, at least one of today's unbeaten teams will have lost.

Seoul SK's first game is at home to Sono on Sunday, October 18, fifteen days after opening day. When the KBL released the schedule on August 10, Money Today and Jumpball reported that SK would play no regular-season games for about two weeks because of their participation in FIBA Basketball Champions League Asia. If every game goes ahead as scheduled, by the end of October 17 LG, Jungkwanjang, Sono, KT and KOGAS will have played six games and DB, Samsung, KCC and Hyundai Mobis five. SK make up the difference over the season, since every team plays the same 54.

How to read this. There are no magic numbers in this piece. Each team has 52 to 54 games left, so the calculation still gives all ten teams a possible finish anywhere from first to tenth, and numbers like that tell you nothing yet. The top six after the regular season reach the playoffs, and the top two go straight to the semifinals. Clinch and elimination numbers start to mean something once a team's range of possible finishes begins to narrow. The full table is on the KBL standings page, the dates are on the schedule page and the working is on the methodology page. Team pages show each club's remaining games: LG, Jungkwanjang, KCC and SK.
