How is the magic number computed?
Assume every rival wins all remaining games; the magic number is the minimum wins that still guarantee a spot. Ties count against the team, so it can show later than official.
Does the sixth-best record in the league make it?
Not necessarily. Division winners are in regardless of record, so a team with a better record can still miss out if it loses the wild-card race.
