The 2026 World Championship is under way in the United States. According to the official LoL Esports primer, the Play-In Stage runs from October 15 to 18 (US dates) in Los Angeles: four teams in a best-of-five, double-elimination bracket, with one team going through to the Swiss Stage. Nineteen teams take part in all. The primer lists four from the LPL, four from the LCK, three each from the LEC, LCS and LCP, and two from the CBLOL.

Korea's LCK sends Gen.G, Hanwha Life Esports, T1 and Dplus KIA. Korean outlet Digital Daily (October 14) lists them as seeds one to four in that order. Gen.G earned the first seed by beating Hanwha Life 3-1 in the LCK final at the KSPO Dome in Seoul on September 13, its second LCK title in a row (Kukmin Ilbo). Hanwha Life won this year's Mid-Season Invitational. Dplus KIA is back at Worlds for the first time in two years and won the League of Legends event at this year's Esports World Cup (Digital Daily).

All four skip the Play-In and start in the Swiss Stage, which the primer dates October 23 to 31 (US time) in Allen, Texas. Inven Global names the venue as the Credit Union of Texas Event Center and splits the stage into two blocks, October 24-27 and October 29-November 1 on the Korean calendar. In Korea time, the LCK teams' first matches begin at 2 a.m. on October 24 (Digital Daily).

The Swiss rules are simple. Sixteen teams play up to five rounds. A team that reaches three match wins advances to the Knockout Stage, and a team that reaches three match losses is eliminated. The stage mixes best-of-one and best-of-three matches; the primer does not say round by round which matches are best-of-three, so neither do we. Each team plays between three matches (3-0 or 0-3) and five (3-2 or 2-3), and eight of the sixteen go through.

Every round is drawn. Round 1 is drawn right after the Play-In ends, with the sixteen teams split into four tiers: Tier 1 plays Tier 4 and Tier 2 plays Tier 3, and teams from the same region cannot meet in Round 1. Among the LCK teams, Gen.G is in Tier 1, Hanwha Life in Tier 2, T1 in Tier 3 and Dplus KIA in Tier 4. From Round 2 to Round 5, teams are drawn against others with the same record, rematches are not allowed, and same-region matchups are permitted. So an all-LCK match is possible from Round 2 onward.

The quarterfinal bracket is drawn too, right after the Swiss Stage ends. The two 3-0 teams each face one of the 3-2 teams, and the remaining four teams are drawn into two more matches. Every knockout match is best-of-five. The primer dates the quarterfinals November 3-6 and the semifinals November 7-8 (US time), and Riot's venue announcement put everything up to the semifinals in Texas (as reported by Sports Kyunghyang). The final is at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday, November 14, at 2 p.m. Eastern, which is 4 a.m. on Sunday, November 15, in Korea.

Last year's final was an all-LCK affair. On November 9, 2025, in Chengdu, China, T1 beat KT Rolster 3-2 for a third straight world title and its sixth overall, with Lee Min-hyeong (Gumayusi) named Finals MVP (Newsis). Inven Global counts ten LCK titles from the fifteen Worlds played so far. DRX in 2022 and T1 from 2023 to 2025 make it four LCK winners in a row (Digital Daily), so an LCK title this year would be the fifth in a row.

The next Worlds comes to South Korea. When Riot Games announced its international event hosts for 2025 to 2027 on January 9, 2025, it placed the 2027 World Championship in Korea (Financial News). Riot has not published official dates or host cities for 2027, so this piece does not give any. Everything here comes from the official primer and major outlets; there are no predictions or odds.
