AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027

How it is calculated

Everything on these pages is arithmetic on official results and the AFC's published rules.

Group tiebreakers (regulation 7.3)

  1. Points in all group matches.
  2. Points in matches between the teams level on points.
  3. Goal difference in those matches.
  4. Goals scored in those matches.
  5. If some teams are still level, the head-to-head steps are applied again only to them.
  6. Goal difference in all group matches.
  7. Goals scored in all group matches.
  8. Penalties — only if exactly two teams are level and they met in the last group match.
  9. Disciplinary points (yellow and red cards), then drawing of lots.

Ranking third-placed teams (AFC Competition Operations Manual, Appendix 2)

  1. Points in all group matches.
  2. Goal difference in all group matches.
  3. Goals scored in all group matches.
  4. Disciplinary points, then drawing of lots.

What this site calculates

  1. Clinched / alive / eliminated: every remaining win/draw/loss combination in a group is checked. A team is through only if it finishes top two in all of them (ties counted against it).
  2. Third place: a team that finished third is through once it cannot drop below fourth among the six third-placed teams, and out once four others are certain to finish above it.
  3. The bracket view places teams by the regulation's pairing table; before every group is complete it is labelled as a projection.

* Still level after every criterion we can compute. The remaining steps (penalties between two teams who met in the last match, disciplinary points, lots) need data we don't have.
